Psychotherapy in York | Embodied & Relational Therapy | Kate Roberts MBACP
Online and in-person therapy for adults experiencing attachment difficulties, relationship challenges and long-standing emotional patterns. Sessions integrate reflective conversation with body (somatic) awareness, helping connect thoughts, feelings, and bodily experience in ways that support lasting change.

Welcome
We’ve all adopted strategies for getting on in life.
What are yours? Are they still working?
What I have learned from my clients is that many things that society describes as mental health issues are often understandable, perhaps even intelligent adaptations, to our history, current situation and environment.
Are you too accommodating in relationships because that’s the only way you feel you will be accepted or loved by others?
Or you are attracted to people who are emotionally unavailable or who won't or can't meet your needs? Did you have a parent who was preoccupied - with work, illness or alcohol - or caring for someone else?
Therapy can help connect the dots between events and understand how your personality and your responses affect your well-being now and make sense of your past.
Understanding comes from insight - and also a deeper embodied connection to yourself. A deeper understanding of how you operate (and why) in different circumstances will serve you as you apply what you’ve learned in therapy.
This can take the form of specific things you want or need to take on, change or accept. Or it might take the form of more general intentions about how you want to behave or be going forward.
My approach integrates reflective conversation with body (somatic) awareness. Talking helps us understand your experience and the patterns that have developed over time. Paying attention to the body can reveal feelings and responses that are harder to reach through words alone.
Together these approaches support deeper understanding and lasting change.

How I Work
Sessions are collaborative and paced according to what feels manageable and safe.
Therapy is tailored to your needs and can range from an open exploration to a targeted approach
We can have a time limited number of sessions or a relationship spanning several years.
We notice not only to what is said, but also to how your difficulties and strengths are experienced physically in the present moment. This can be particularly helpful for clients who feel they have “talked about things before” but still struggle to shift long-held patterns.
Sessions are predominantly talking-based. Where appropriate and we agree to work in this way, I may suggest body-focused exercises.
We also work with what is already working for you - and how that can be developed, enhanced and maintained.
Sessions are 1 hour.
The fee is £70 per session. I have some concessionary slots so please ask if this applies to you.
In person sessions are in YO19 or I can also make home visits by arrangement.
For online sessionsI will send a Zoom link prior to the session. You will need to be somewhere comfortable and undisturbed to benefit from the session.
If you would like to explore whether therapy might be helpful, I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation.
